SOuthern Astrometry Project Expolartory phase 1 (SOAP-E1)

Goals of the SOAP-E1 project

Target list includes sources brighter 250 mJy at declinations <-45° except 36 objects observed in LBA v561a experiment. The number of target sources: 221. Each source is observed in two scans of 2–4 minutes long. Two twenty-four hour experiments are required. The objectives of this campaign are

to determine the correlated flux density at the medium length baselines (Au-Au: 1000–3000 km and long baselines, Hh-Au: 8000–10000~km)

improve source position by a factor of 2 to 0.8~mas level. Observing with two scans reduces of false negative when a wrong decision about source suitability may be made due to an unnoticed failure in observations. The outcome of this phase will be the source list for SOAP-A1 phase.

Prelinary results of the SOAP-E1 project

By 2017.12.17 two experiments were corerlated, soap-e1-01 (aua025, 20170822_p) and soap-e1-02 (aua026, 20170913_p). Voltage data from station WARK12M were not yet transferred to Vienna and correlated. Thus, the report belowe is preliminary.

Astrometry result:
The number of sources that were observed bedfore only at X-band: 50
X-band positions of these sources.
dual-band SOAP-E1 positions of these sources.
Median position uncertaibty prior SOAP-E1 with accouting for systemaic errors: 2.1 mas

The number of targett sources to be reobserved: 7
The number of target sources with 3 or more detections at X-band: 183
The number of target sources with 3 or more detections at S-band: 164
The number of sources suitable for follow-up observations: 137

The target list of for follow-up soap-a1 observations confirmed with soap-e1 observations is available here. These are the sources that were detected at Auscope-Auscope baselines at both X and S bands.
